Role Overview

A First Commis Chef position is available within the Food and Beverage and Culinary department in Egypt. This role supports daily kitchen operations by preparing high-quality dishes, maintaining equipment standards, and ensuring food safety compliance. The position suits a motivated culinary professional seeking growth in a structured hotel or restaurant kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare special meals and substitute items according to dietary requirements and menu specifications
• Regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters for consistent cooking results
• Pull food from freezers and refrigerators in advance to ensure proper thawing and preparation timing
• Assist Chef de Partie and Sous Chef with mise en place, portion control, and plating standards
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned workstations following HACCP and food safety guidelines
• Monitor ingredient freshness, rotate stock using FIFO method, and report shortages to senior kitchen staff
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment including mixers, slicers, and food processors
• Support banquet and event service preparation during peak periods

Requirements

Hard Skills

• Proven experience as Commis Chef or Junior Cook in hotel or high-volume restaurant kitchen
• Strong knowledge of cooking techniques: grilling, roasting, sautéing, braising, and baking
• Familiarity with international cuisine standards and menu execution
• Ability to follow standardized recipes and maintain portion consistency
• Food safety certification (HACCP, ServSafe or equivalent) preferred
• Knife skills and proficiency with commercial kitchen equipment
