About the Opportunity

The CRSA - Postdoctoral Researcher in Isotope-Enabled Ecohydrological Modeling position is based at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), a research-focused institution dedicated to advancing innovation across Africa. This postdoctoral research role focuses on integrating stable isotope techniques with ecohydrological modeling to address critical water and ecosystem challenges in Morocco and the broader region.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research team working at the intersection of isotope hydrology, ecosystem science, and computational modeling. The postdoctoral researcher will develop and apply isotope-enabled models to understand water movement, vegetation dynamics, and biogeochemical cycles in Moroccan ecosystems under changing climate conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and calibrate isotope-enabled ecohydrological models for semi-arid and arid environments in Morocco
• Design and execute field sampling campaigns for stable water isotopes (δ¹⁸O, δ²H) across soil, plant, and groundwater compartments
• Integrate isotope data with remote sensing products and land surface models to improve ecohydrological predictions
• Analyze the impacts of climate variability and land use change on water resources and ecosystem function
• Publish findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across hydrology, ecology, and Earth system science
• Contribute to grant proposals and support the research group's ongoing funded projects
• Mentor graduate students and contribute to capacity building initiatives at UM6P

Qualifications and Requirements

• PhD in hydrology, ecohydrology, isotope geochemistry, environmental engineering, Earth system science, or a closely related field
• Demonstrated experience with isotope hydrology methods and stable isotope analysis
• Proficiency in ecohydrological or land surface modeling frameworks (e.g., CLM, ParFlow, HYDRUS, or similar)
• Strong programming skills in Python, R, MATLAB, or Fortran for data analysis and model development
• Experience with GIS tools and geospatial data analysis
• Excellent scientific writing skills with a track record of peer-reviewed publications
• Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative research team
• Strong interest in water resource sustainability and ecosystem resilience in arid regions
• Experience with field-based research in arid or semi-arid environments is highly desirable
• Familiarity with climate modeling outputs and downscaling techniques is a plus
