Role Summary
Wood is seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer for a 12-month secondment assignment in Muscat, Oman. This role focuses on delivering high-level process safety expertise to support operational integrity and risk management within the energy sector. The position requires deep knowledge of process safety frameworks, hazard analysis methodologies, and regulatory compliance in high-hazard industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies including HAZOP, LOPA, and QRA for upstream and downstream facilities.
- Develop and maintain Safety Cases, Risk Assessments, and Emergency Response Plans aligned with international standards (API, IEC, OSHA PSM).
- Provide technical oversight for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) design, verification, and lifecycle management per IEC 61511.
- Conduct Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) to evaluate risk reduction measures.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) processes ensuring process safety implications are fully assessed.
- Audit and improve Process Safety Management (PSM) systems, including mechanical integrity, operating procedures, and training programs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate process safety into design, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Prepare and present technical reports, safety studies, and compliance documentation to stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in process safety engineering within oil & gas, petrochemical, or energy industries.
- Proven track record leading HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, and SIL determination studies for major capital projects or operating assets.
- Professional certification such as TÜV Functional Safety Engineer (FSE), CCPS Process Safety Professional, or Chartered Engineer (CEng) highly desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of international codes and standards: API RP 750/754, OSHA 1910.119, IEC 61508/61511, ISO 17776, NFPA.
- Experience with process safety software tools (e.g., PHA-Pro, Safeti, MARPLOT, CANARY).
- Prior secondment or consultancy experience in the Middle East region is advantageous.
