About the Role

UNICEF Algeria's Education Section is seeking qualified Enumerators, Interviewers, and Note Takers to support a critical data collection initiative for the School Management and Early Warning System (EWS) Pilot in Tindouf, Algeria. This is a 3-month, office-based consultancy open to national consultants only. The selected candidates will play a vital role in gathering, recording, and organizing field data that directly informs education programming and early warning interventions for vulnerable school-age children in the Tindouf refugee camps.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct structured interviews with school administrators, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders to collect data relevant to the Early Warning System pilot.
  • Accurately record, compile, and organize qualitative and quantitative data from field visits and interviews.
  • Serve as a note taker during meetings, focus group discussions, and training sessions related to the EWS pilot.
  • Administer survey questionnaires and data collection tools in alignment with the methodology developed by the Education Section.
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and completeness by cross-checking information before submission.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards when handling sensitive information about children and families.
  • Collaborate with the UNICEF Education team and partners to ensure data collection activities are conducted on schedule.
  • Prepare daily and weekly summary reports of data collection progress and submit them to the supervisor.
  • Flag any challenges, gaps, or inconsistencies encountered during the data collection process for timely resolution.
  • Support data entry and preliminary analysis activities as required by the project timeline.

Required Qualifications

  • University degree in Education, Social Sciences, Statistics, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in data collection, field research, surveys, or monitoring and evaluation roles.
  • Proven experience conducting interviews and focus group discussions in field settings.
  • Strong note-taking and documentation skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Arabic (required); working knowledge of French is highly desirable.
  • Ability to use basic data collection tools (digital forms, spreadsheets, or mobile data platforms).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience working with UN agencies, NGOs, or humanitarian organizations in Algeria.
  • Familiarity with education sector data, school management information systems, or Early Warning Systems.
  • Experience working in the Tindouf region or with Sahrawi refugee communities.
  • Knowledge of child safeguarding principles and ethical data collection involving vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to produce clear and concise written reports in both Arabic and French.
