Job Duties
- Some typical job duties of air conditioning technicians include reviewing blueprints, installing air conditioning systems, testing systems for proper functioning, performing emergency repairs, maintaining tools, ordering supplies, and making routine adjustments to maximize operational efficiency.
- They may also record data when inspecting systems, such as temperature of equipment, fuel consumption and hours of operation
- Air conditioning technicians must recover and properly dispose of refrigerants when servicing air conditioning equipment since refrigerants can be harmful to the environment
- They may also sell service contracts to clients in order to ensure long-term client relationships.

Air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanics work wherever they are required to install heating and cooling systems. These locations can be indoors or outdoors, at factories, industrial plants, restaurants, licensed premises, offices, private dwellings or construction sites. Their work environments can often be cramped, noisy, dirty or humid. Sometimes, they may have to work at heights. They usually work normal business hours, but may be required to be on call, day or night, to conduct emergency repairs.
