Role Summary
The CSSD Technician plays a critical role in healthcare operations by preparing, sterilizing, installing, assembling, and cleaning all laboratory and healthcare equipment required for surgeries, examinations, and medical procedures. This position is essential to maintaining the highest standards of infection control and patient safety within clinical environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments, medical devices, and healthcare equipment in accordance with established protocols.
- Assemble, package, and label instrument sets for use in surgeries, examinations, and medical procedures.
- Operate and maintain sterilization equipment including autoclaves, washer-disinfectors, and other CSSD machinery.
- Clean and decontaminate reusable medical instruments and laboratory equipment following strict hygiene standards.
- Monitor and document sterilization cycles, ensuring compliance with quality assurance and infection control guidelines.
- Inspect instruments and equipment for functionality, cleanliness, and integrity before distribution to clinical departments.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of sterile supplies and surgical instruments.
- Collaborate with surgical teams and healthcare staff to ensure timely availability of required equipment.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and regulatory standards relevant to sterile processing operations.
Qualifications
- Proven experience or formal training in Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) operations or sterile processing.
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control principles, and medical instrument handling.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulatory standards and quality assurance protocols.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced hospital or clinical environment with attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage inventory systems effectively.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and handle heavy instrument trays.
