Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Resident Engineer to join our team in Oman. This is a senior-level engineering position requiring extensive hands-on experience in civil and construction project management. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all on-site engineering activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage all on-site civil and construction engineering activities in accordance with approved plans, drawings, and specifications
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, subcontractors, and consultants to ensure seamless project execution
- Monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality benchmarks
- Review and approve shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with engineering standards, building codes, and HSE regulations
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports for senior management and stakeholders
- Resolve technical issues and engineering challenges that arise during construction
- Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of all site activities, variations, and approvals
- Liaise with government authorities and regulatory bodies for permits, inspections, and approvals
- Lead and mentor junior engineering staff and site supervisors on best practices
Required Qualifications
- B.Sc. / M.Sc. / B.Eng. in Engineering (Civil, Construction, or a closely related field)
- Expat Candidates: Minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in civil/construction engineering
- Omani Nationals: Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in civil/construction engineering
- Proven track record of managing large-scale infrastructure or construction projects
- In-depth knowledge of international construction standards, codes, and best practices
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency in engineering software and project management tools
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional engineering certification or chartership (e.g., PE, CEng) is a strong advantage
- Experience working on projects in the Gulf region or Oman specifically
- Familiarity with FIDIC contract conditions and claims management
- Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and green building standards
