Position Overview
The ASARI project is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Postdoctoral Researcher in Soil Microbiology to join its dynamic research team. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research focused on understanding soil microbial ecosystems and their role in sustainable agriculture and environmental resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute advanced research experiments in soil microbiology, including microbial community analysis, metagenomics, and biogeochemical cycling studies.
- Conduct field sampling and laboratory analyses to investigate soil health, microbial diversity, and ecosystem functioning.
- Analyze complex datasets using bioinformatics tools and statistical methods to derive meaningful scientific insights.
- Publish research findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Present research outcomes at national and international conferences and workshops.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams, agronomists, and environmental scientists on joint projects.
- Mentor graduate students and contribute to the academic development of the research group.
- Prepare grant proposals and research reports to secure external funding and support project continuity.
Required Qualifications
- A PhD in Soil Microbiology, Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in soil microbial ecology, molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, sequencing), and bioinformatics.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals related to soil science or microbiology.
- Experience with field-based research and soil sampling methodologies.
- Proficiency in data analysis software and programming languages such as R or Python.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in French or Arabic is an asset.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environment.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and other multi-omics approaches.
- Experience working in arid or semi-arid soil environments relevant to African agricultural contexts.
- Knowledge of sustainable agriculture practices and soil conservation strategies.
- Prior experience in securing research funding or managing research project budgets.
