We are hiring a Mechanical Engineer for a 12-month assignment in El Merk, Algeria, working on a 28/28 rotation. Reporting to the Chef Service Engineering (Engineering Team Lead), this role is ideal for a hands-on mechanical professional ready to take ownership of field engineering operations in a demanding industrial environment.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Field Engineer — also referred to as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer or Rotating Equipment Specialist — you will be the technical backbone of the engineering team on-site. Your work will directly impact equipment reliability, operational uptime, and safety compliance across the facility. This is a high-responsibility position suited for someone who thrives in field-based engineering roles within the energy or heavy industrial sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site mechanical engineering support for rotating and static equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, and heat exchangers.
- Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence of mechanical failures.
- Plan and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance activities in alignment with the site's maintenance strategy.
- Supervise mechanical overhauls, installations, and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with OEM specifications and industry standards (API, ASME).
- Review and interpret technical documentation, including P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and mechanical drawings.
- Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely availability of spare parts and materials.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, work progress updates, and handover documentation for the engineering team lead.
- Ensure all mechanical activities adhere to HSE policies, permit-to-work procedures, and site safety protocols.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Proven experience in mechanical engineering roles within oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, piping systems, and pressure vessel integrity.
- Familiarity with international mechanical standards such as API 610, API 617, ASME Section VIII, and ISO 10438.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in remote field locations.
- Strong communication skills in English; French or Arabic proficiency is a significant advantage.
- Willingness to work on a 28/28 rotation schedule in El Merk, Algeria.

- Duration: 12 months (subject to visa approval)
- Rotation: 28 days on / 28 days off
- Location: El Merk, Algeria

Tips to Land This Role
- Highlight specific rotating equipment you have maintained or overhauled — employers in Algeria's energy sector value hands-on field experience over theoretical knowledge.
- Mention any API or ASME certifications you hold; these are frequently screened for in shortlisting.
- Emphasize your adaptability to remote site conditions and rotation schedules — this signals reliability to hiring managers.
- If you have experience with CMMS systems (such as SAP PM or Maximo), include it explicitly; it is a common requirement for field engineering roles.
- Prepare concrete examples of root cause analysis you have led — interviewers will probe for depth in troubleshooting methodology.
