About the Role
The World Health Organization (WHO), the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the United Nations system, is seeking a Regional Data Analyst to support data-driven decision-making at the WHO Regional Office. This role is critical to strengthening public health surveillance, evidence generation, and policy support across the region.
Core Responsibilities
- Collect, clean, validate, and manage large-scale regional health datasets from multiple sources.
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis to support public health programs and regional initiatives.
- Develop dashboards, visualizations, and periodic reports for WHO regional stakeholders and partner organizations.
- Support the design and implementation of data collection tools, surveys, and monitoring frameworks.
- Perform statistical modeling and trend analysis to inform health policy recommendations.
- Collaborate with epidemiologists, program officers, and external partners to ensure data quality and standardization.
- Maintain and update regional health databases and information management systems.
- Prepare technical briefs, presentations, and data summaries for high-level meetings and publications.
- Ensure compliance with WHO data governance, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
- Provide technical support and capacity building to country offices on data analysis tools and methodologies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a related field.
- Proven experience in data analysis, preferably within public health, international organizations, or UN agencies.
- Strong proficiency in statistical software such as R, Python, SPSS, Stata, or SAS.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Solid understanding of database management systems and data cleaning techniques.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.
Preferred Skills
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience working with WHO, UN agencies, or international NGOs.
- Familiarity with health information systems (DHIS2, HMIS) and global health indicators.
- Knowledge of GIS tools and spatial data analysis.
- Experience in survey design, sampling methodologies, and research protocols.
- Proficiency in advanced Excel functions and macro development.
- Understanding of machine learning applications in public health data.
