About the Role
KalSoft is seeking a highly experienced Senior Oracle Database Administrator for a full-time contractual position based onsite in Oman. This role demands a seasoned professional with a minimum of 12 years of hands-on expertise in Oracle database architecture, performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing mission-critical database environments, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability 24/7. This position is open exclusively to Omani nationals.
Core Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, and maintain Oracle Database environments (12c, 18c, 19c, 21c) across Linux/Unix and Windows platforms.
- Design and implement high availability solutions including Data Guard, RAC, GoldenGate, and Active Data Guard.
- Perform performance tuning at the instance, SQL, and schema levels; optimize execution plans and resource utilization.
- Manage backup and recovery strategies using RMAN, ensuring RPO/RTO compliance and regular restore testing.
- Automate routine DBA tasks using Shell, Python, or Perl scripting to improve operational efficiency.
- Apply patching, upgrades, and migrations with zero-downtime methodologies; manage lifecycle of database assets.
- Enforce database security policies: user access control, encryption (TDE), auditing, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with application development and infrastructure teams on capacity planning, schema design, and deployment pipelines.
- Document architecture diagrams, runbooks, standard operating procedures, and disaster recovery playbooks.
- Provide 24/7 on-call support for critical production incidents and participate in root cause analysis.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 12+ years of progressive experience as an Oracle DBA in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Deep expertise in Oracle RAC, Data Guard, ASM, and Multitenant architecture (CDB/PDB).
- Proven track record in performance tuning, SQL optimization, and execution plan analysis.
- Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix administration (RHEL, OEL, Solaris) and shell scripting.
- Experience with RMAN backup/recovery, Flashback technologies, and point-in-time recovery.
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Certified Master (OCM) certification highly preferred.
- Must be an Omani national with valid residency and ability to work onsite in Oman.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Autonomous Database, or Exadata systems.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools: Git, Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform for infrastructure as code.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, or NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra) for heterogeneous environments.
- Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and database operator patterns.
- ITIL or ITSM framework experience for incident, problem, and change management.
