About the Role
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher specializing in spatial data science, urban modeling, and cost analysis to join our research team in Morocco. This position focuses on developing an innovative model to estimate the direct and indirect costs associated with urban systems and spatial phenomena. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research that bridges geospatial analytics, urban planning, and economic cost assessment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop an innovative computational model for estimating direct and indirect costs using spatial data science methodologies.
- Apply urban modeling techniques to analyze spatial patterns, infrastructure distribution, and their economic implications.
- Collect, process, and analyze geospatial datasets including GIS data, remote sensing imagery, and urban infrastructure databases.
- Conduct cost-benefit analysis and socioeconomic impact assessments tied to urban development scenarios.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams across urban planning, data science, and public policy domains.
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
- Contribute to grant proposals and research funding applications.
- Mentor graduate students and assist with teaching activities as needed.
Requirements
- PhD in Spatial Data Science, Urban Planning, Geographic Information Science, Urban Economics, or a closely related field.
- Strong background in urban modeling, spatial statistics, and quantitative cost analysis.
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial programming languages (Python, R).
- Experience with remote sensing data analysis and geospatial big data frameworks.
- Demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publications in relevant disciplines.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in French or Arabic is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with machine learning and AI applications in spatial analysis.
- Familiarity with urban simulation platforms (e.g., cellular automata, agent-based modeling).
- Knowledge of transportation modeling and infrastructure cost assessment.
- Experience with data visualization tools and dashboard development.
- Prior postdoctoral research experience in a related field.
