Mechanical Team Leader — Engineering Consultancy Opportunity in Egypt
We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Team Leader to join a leading engineering consultancy firm in Egypt. This is a senior-level role designed for a proven leader who can manage multidisciplinary mechanical projects, guide cross-functional engineering teams, and deliver high-quality consultancy solutions on time and within budget.
Role Overview
As a Mechanical Team Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing all mechanical engineering aspects of consultancy projects. You will lead a team of mechanical engineers and technicians, coordinate with electrical, BIM, and structural disciplines, and ensure that all mechanical designs, installations, and inspections comply with international standards and client specifications. This position demands strong technical expertise combined with exceptional leadership and decision-making capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of mechanical engineers and technical staff across multiple concurrent projects.
- Oversee the design, review, and approval of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and piping systems.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical engineers, BIM managers, and architectural consultants to ensure seamless project integration.
- Develop and monitor mechanical project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
- Conduct technical reviews and value engineering exercises to optimize design performance and cost efficiency.
- Ensure full compliance with local building codes, ASHRAE, NFPA, and other applicable international standards.
- Prepare and present technical reports, progress updates, and design proposals to clients and senior management.
- Manage subcontractor and vendor relationships related to mechanical works.
- Lead site supervision and commissioning activities to verify proper installation and system functionality.
- Make critical technical and managerial decisions under tight deadlines to keep projects on track.
- Contribute to business development efforts by supporting proposal preparation and client presentations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Strong experience working within engineering consultancy firms — direct consultancy experience is essential.
- Proven track record of leading and managing mechanical engineering teams on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical building systems: HVAC design, plumbing, firefighting, district cooling, and pressure vessel systems.
- Proficiency in mechanical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP, Trace 700, and PipeNet.
- Familiarity with international codes and standards including ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, IPC, and ASPE.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities in high-pressure environments.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for effective client and stakeholder engagement.
Preferred Skills
- Professional Engineer certification or equivalent credential is a strong advantage.
- Experience with BIM coordination and clash detection workflows using Navisworks or similar platforms.
- Prior experience in large-scale commercial, healthcare, hospitality, or infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and green building certification systems such as LEED or BREEAM.
- Strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills within multidisciplinary team settings.
